May 2013 Book of the Month

In The Secrets of Happy Families, New York Times bestselling author Bruce Feiler has drawn up a blueprint for modern families — a new approach to family dynamics, inspired by cutting-edge techniques gathered from experts in the disciplines of science, business, sports, and the military.

The result is a funny and thought-provoking playbook for contemporary families, with more than 200 useful strategies, including: the right way to have family dinner, what your mother never told you about sex (but should have), and why you should always have two women present in difficult conversations…

Timely, compassionate, and filled with practical tips and wise advice, Bruce Feiler’s The Secrets of Happy Families: Improve Your Mornings, Rethink Family Dinner, Fight Smarter, Go Out and Play, and Much More should be required reading for all parents.

SERVING IN SUMMER (Hwy34)

We would love to give our small group coaches the summer off in Hwy34.  So, we need your help!  Please sign-up for 1 or 2 Sundays this summer to join us in Hwy34.

You’ll be hanging out with a group of kids and helping them engage with what is going on up front.  We do not have small groups during the summer; we have an all Large Group program.  You will not be responsible for leading a small group time.  You will simply be facilitating things that we are running from the front and spending time with a group of kids.

We are using a site called Volunteer Spot to keep track of all of the sign-ups.  So, when you click the link, you’ll be taken to their website.

Thanks so much for continuing to partner with us in Hwy34 in helping your kids be like Jesus!

This past Sunday, Hwy34 learned how we can make a difference right now.  Lucy decided that a way that she could make a difference right now was to donate her hair to Locks of Love.  She tells us a little bit about her experience and why she decided to do it.

10 Practical How-to's of Disciple Making in the Home

In October, Kennon Vaughn with Downline Ministries came and shared with us about disciple-making in the home.  He shared why our kids are our primary disciples.  But then he shared some very practical how-tos.

This link will take you to the FellowshipNWA services page.  You’ll see the 2 teaches titled “The 10 How-To’s of Practical Disciple Making - Session 1 & 2”.  Then to the right, you’ll see the Powerpoint slides that he used during his teachings.  Feel free to download those slides and follow along as you listen.

The greatest need for our time is for the Church to become what it has seldom been: the body of Christ with its face to the world, loving others regardless of religion or culture, pouring itself out in a life of service, offering hope to a frightened world, and presenting itself as a real alternative to the existing arrangement.
Brennan Manning in “The Signature of Jesus”

INDIVIDUALITY - discovering who you are meant to be so you can make a difference.

This past Sunday, we learned how when we use our gifts together, we make a greater difference.  Maris & Melanie shared about their spring break trip to Belize.  They helped us see how as the church, we are called to work together as the Body of Christ.
